Words Writing Prompt: Flowers, Crinkling, and Darkness

Sometimes when I’m stuck and can’t think of anything to write, I go through whatever book is closest and pick out 3-5 random words and then see what comes to mind using them. Today’s words are flowers, crinkling, and darkness. This is the short paragraph that resulted.

The loud crinkling of the plastic as I unwrapped the flowers fills the quiet room.  Who sets flowers at someone’s doorstep?  No card, no delivery person, no doorbell.  I barely even noticed they were there.  It’s surprising they are still fresh.  How long had they been sitting there?  I fill the tall vase with water and add the powder from the attached packet.  It’s the only vase I have — no idea where I got it.  I sit the vase with flowers in the middle of the table and turn out the light.  Weird — it’s as if the flowers have a light of their own that shines through the darkness.  I’m exhausted and decide this is a mystery for another day.  I scuffle to bed.
