Little Minutes

Yesterday I kept thinking about social media and my love/hate relationship with it.  And then last night I got sucked in and wasted what little time I had left in the day.  It was the comments.  You know, they’re like potato chips — you can’t read just one!

Yesterday I was also thinking about time (surprise surprise!).  What’s the best use of my time?  How do I fit more into my time?  Reading social media comments is probably not the answer!  I have discovered a little trick though.  I call it “Little Minutes.”  I’m sure I stumbled upon the concept somewhere else, but I can’t remember where.  Little Minutes are just that – the two minutes you have while your food microwaves, the five minutes you have while you wait for your turn in the bathroom, the ten minutes in between appointments or waiting in a waiting room.  Little Minutes are everywhere and they add up.

What can you get done in Little Minutes?  A lot!  A lot because they really do add up.  But you need to be able to recognize when and where your Little Minutes are and be ready.  And by be ready I mean know exactly what you can do with those Little Minutes.  What’s your goal?  Getting in shape?  Do ten squats while you wait for the microwave.  Reading a book that you don’t have time to finish?  Read a paragraph here and there in between activities.  Cleaning the house?  Wipe the sink and counter down real quick right before getting into the shower.  And better yet, scrub one little part of the shower while you’re in there.  Doesn’t have to be the whole thing – just a little section.  You can do another little section tomorrow.

Some days I remember my Little Minutes and I’m ready.  Other days I’m exhausted and I stare out the window.  That’s ok.  It happens.  But if I can take advantage of my Little Minutes on more days than not, I know I will be able to accomplish great things.

  1. Great idea!! Love this!

  2. I love this! I’ve started using those little minutes to meditate and breathe and recenter. It really helps with my anxiety and makes me feel less rushed. It’s also helped me see what really is important for me to spend my time on.

Thank you for this!! What a great idea/reminder!!
